CIRCULAR # 5/07 – On Linakaran and Other Offerings

February 12, 2007

To all Parish Priests in the Archdiocese of Cebu

Your Excellencies, Rev. Monsignori, and Rev. Fathers:

Greetings of Peace:

Although the Commission on Worship has recommended that we strictly follow beginning Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007, the guidelines that we have set for the celebration of the Sacrament of Marriage, I wish to have two concerns immediately implemented:

  1. In cases when the wedding is celebrated outside the parish of both parties, the parish that gives the permission is entitled to an offering (linakaran) of Php 500.00 for Metro Cebu parishes and Php 200.00 for the rest of the parishes in the Archdiocese. The “linakaran” is only applicable to the celebration of weddings. Funeral masses and baptisms if celebrated outside the parish of the deceased or of the one to be baptized respectively, do not require a “linakaran” before permission is given.
  2. No offering is given to the parish that grants permission for the Holy Mass to celebrated by a guest priest during special occasions, in offices and other suitable places within the parish’s jurisdiction. In other words, the parish is prohibited from asking for an offering from the one requesting for said mass.

Please be guided accordingly as we continue to live the spirituality of stewardship in this year of social concerns.

In Christ our Good Shepherd,

+RICARDO J. CARDINAL VIDAL
