CIRCULAR # 17/06 – Possible Heritage Objects for Display at the Archdiocesan Museum
December 19, 2006
To all Parish Priests, Shrine Rectors and Chaplaincy heads:
Dear Monsignor/Father:
Peace!
Our Archdiocesan Museum (housed in the former Cathedral Convent, now fully rehabilitated), has finally been established and inaugurated. I am very happy to know that many people, specially the young, have shown so much interest and enthusiasm about our Catholic heritage.
Our collection of heritage objects (which was started by the late Msgr. Virgilio Yap) is quite impressive. But I know that there are still many such objects, which I feel must to be displayed in our museum, even, if only, on a temporary basis.
May I therefore, Your Reverence, request you to consider loaning to our museum such objects as monstrances, chalices, statuaries, reliquaries, old record books, psalters, prayer books, etc., which can be considered of heritage value. After informing your Parish Council or any other such Body, you yourself, may bring the object/s to the Museum, or ask Fr. Carlito Pono, our Heritage Director, to arrange for the transport of the object/s to the Museum. Your loan will be properly acknowledged, receipted and recorded.
I consider this request to be of utmost importance. The time has come for our people to value and appreciate our heritage.
Thank you very much. God bless you always.
Sincerely in Christ,
+RICARDO J. CARDINAL VIDAL
Archbishop of Cebu
