TO THE CLERGY AND LAY FAITHFUL

IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF CEBU

Peace!

It is almost three years since the Holy See, by the authority of the late Pope John Paul II, issued the decree, Beaton Mariam Virginis, declaring Our Lady of Guadalupe as Principal Patroness of the Archdiocese of Cebu.

On July 16, 2006, we will have the coronation of the Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe as our Archdiocesan Patroness during the 3:00 P.M. Pontifical Mass at the Guadalupe Parish Church. The same day marks the 104th anniversary of the salvific event wherein the said Image was carried in procession through the main streets of Cebu City to stop the cholera epidemic.

Since this is a big event in our archdiocese, I enjoin all parish priests to hold novena masses starting July 7, 2006 and culminate it with a dawn procession (aurora) on the 16th. Novena copies are available at the Commission on Worship Office in Patria de Cebu and also at Guadalupe Parish.

May our Heavenly Father bless us and our Blessed Mother intercede for us in our continuing efforts at renewal and evangelization.
